A Look at Summer on the Farm

It has been a busy and productive season at the farm. Here is a look at what has been happening:

The team harvested, processed, and dried garlic for CSA shares. The crop did especially well this year, allowing for some to be saved for seed.

The farm also welcomed the Summer Youth Apprentices, who jumped right in by helping harvest bush beans. Meanwhile, the crew sowed a second succession of beans and summer squash to keep the fields growing strong.

Interns from Supervisor Gioia’s Office visited for a tour and left with fresh flowers in hand. A special bouquet was also made to celebrate the 82nd birthday of a longtime farm friend, Robert.

Speaking of blooms, CSA members will soon have the opportunity to purchase bouquets of these stunning flowers. Stay tuned for more details.

Finally, a big thank you to the Rudy Lozito Fellows, who helped incorporate biochar into the soil. Biochar is rich in nutrients and microbes, improves soil structure and aeration, boosts water retention, and enhances overall soil health, all while sequestering carbon from the atmosphere.

The farm continues to thrive thanks to the hands, hearts, and partnerships that bring it to life.
