What is the Senior Gardening Day Program?

“Building Resilient Community Activiy”
2/24/25

Senior Gardening Day is a weekly 1-hour class held at the Corrine Sain Senior & Family Center. It’s held every Monday, beginning in late Fall and ending in Spring!

Our curriculum provides vital knowledge related to urban gardening. We practice hands-on, low-impact activities such as:

  • Seed Saving
  • Transplanting Techniques
  • Nature-Based Art Projects
  • Composting and Soil Health
  • Herb and Vegetable Gardening Basics
  • Building Resilient Communities

With class sizes averaging 8 to 12 participants, our small group setting fosters meaningful connections and personalized learning. The diversity in experience levels among participants creates a vibrant, peer-based, skill-sharing environment.

Highlights and Collaborations:

We’re proud to have hosted a range of enriching and memorable events with our senior community, including:

Healthy Cooking Habits Demo:
In collaboration with VeggieRx, we hosted a live demonstration focused on accessible, nutritious cooking practices that support health and well-being.

Let’s Talk Soil:
Led by educator Alana, this interactive session explored the fundamentals of soil health and its impact on successful gardening.

CSA Meet and Greet:
A special gathering where seniors met local farmers, learned how Community Supported Agriculture works, and explored fresh food access options.

Jam Making and Field Trips:
Seasonal excursions and creative food preservation workshops that bring joy and community connection to the forefront.

And many more to come!
