The Rudy Lozito Fellows have had a full and engaging season of learning, cooking, tasting, and exploring. Their work has blended hands-on farm practice with lessons from expert educators and community partners.
This cycle began with a vermicomposting lesson led by Dr. Garcia, where fellows explored the role of worms in building healthy soil. They then took a field trip to Blue Ridge Ranch, learning directly from farmer Paul Gaskin about sustainable farming methods. Soil health was another major focus, with sessions on soil textures, mason jar testing, and at-home strip testing, giving fellows practical tools to better understand the ground they cultivate.

The learning extended to water systems through an irrigation workshop with guest speaker Ishai from CCRCD, offering valuable insight into how farms can efficiently manage and conserve water. To celebrate the season’s bounty, fellows came together for the RLFP Summer Cookout, sharing an abundance of summer foods they helped prepare.
Alongside these workshops and celebrations, fellows contributed daily to the upkeep of the farm. Their work included watering in the greenhouse, weeding, and spreading biochar in the farm’s annex area, ensuring that the land remains healthy and productive.
