Indigo Workshop

The Indigo Project with Bushmama Africa at the farm was a wonderful experience. We love welcoming the community to explore, learn, and engage with the farm!

The Indigo Project was a spiritual assignment given to Bushmama Africa to highlight the connection between denim, cotton, and indigo and their significance to African Indigenous and African American communities, groups that played a crucial role in the development of these industries. Participants learned how this blue dye was historically used to honor royal lineages in Nigeria and for spiritual protection. We also explored how denim became a symbol of unity during the Civil Rights Movement, connecting people in the fight for freedom and equality.

The event offered a rich history lesson, a fun interactive tie-dye activity, and delicious food. Once the tariff situation is resolved, we plan to host another event using the original materials, including the indigo plant.
