What’s Growing on the Greenway

As May transitions into June, residents are invited to reflect on what has been growing in their neighborhoods.

Along the Greenway, a simple walk reveals the vibrant blooms of flowering valerian, hummingbird sage, strawflowers, fava beans, and much more. Yet, the most cherished blossoms are those that emerge from within the community itself, growing stronger through deepened connections and collective efforts to support food sovereignty via the open-harvest garden and orchard.

The results of this labor are evident: lush lettuces, ripening strawberries and stone fruits, and an abundance of greenery thriving in every corner. Thanks to recent efforts to remove invasive weeds and mulch areas of weed pressure, the land is clearer and more productive, just in time to welcome the warmth of summer.

Community members interested in nurturing this shared space are encouraged to join the upcoming Community Garden Volunteer Day on June 14th, from 10 am to 1 pm at Ohio Ave & 6th St.
