Basins of Relations: Exploring Bay Area Biodiversity

Another week of our Basins of Relations Training Program is in the books!

We began by exploring how rivers shape and nurture our communities—and have now shifted our focus to the biodiversity of the San Francisco Bay Area.

This week, we:

  • Joined our friend Kristina to test the water quality of San Pablo Creek, using macroinvertebrates to track aquatic health. Despite low oxygen levels, we spotted plenty of three-spined stickleback.
  • Visited Huckleberry Botanic Preserve to learn about rare pallid manzanitas (and taste a few huckleberries).
  • Went bird-watching at Dotson Family Marsh with our friend Zaira (@zzs31)—and even caught a rainbow—while learning about shorebirds and the lasting legacy of Whitney Dotson and his family.
  • Continue growing native plants in our nursery for the upcoming fall planting season.

Check out the photos below for highlights from our latest adventures!
