On October 29th, Urban Tilth Staff joined hundreds at the San Francisco Day of Action to Defund Climate Chaos and Fossil Fuels. As young tenders and stewards of the beautiful Ohlone lands known as Richmond, it was such a powerful experience for us to express our roots through our mural. During both the pandemic and fire season, Urban Tilth continued to provide fresh and healthy food for our community because we knew how important and reliable our work is to our members.
Staff were interviewed by KQED in regards to how they felt about the climate crisis and the role of corporations like Chevron and BlackRock with Marco Lemus of the Communications Team saying, “We have Chevron, which is a huge corporation, polluting our air constantly and flaring — stuff that we deal with on a daily basis.” Marco is going on behalf of Urban Tilth, along with other delegates from the It Takes Roots to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. Marco along with other frontline community leaders and workers will demand political leaders to commit to real solutions that advance climate justice, environmental justice, and a Just Transition off of fossil fuels in international climate negotiations.
