Watersheds Team in Action
This spring, Urban Tilth’s Watershed and Water Conservation teams made big moves to protect our waterways, save precious resources, and help our local ecosystems thrive. On Earth Day, dozens of volunteers rolled up their sleeves at Wildcat Creek, removing over 10 cubic yards of trash from the creek and its banks. It was a powerful day of action that not only helped heal the land but also brought people together in the spirit of community care.
Our Water Conservation team also hit some big milestones this quarter, installing 10 new drip irrigation systems and a Laundry to Landscape greywater system. These upgrades will save an estimated 43,380 gallons of water a year, small changes that add up to big impact for our city’s future.
Meanwhile, our Green Infrastructure Series, hosted in partnership with the San Francisco Estuary Institute, has been drawing a crowd. With three of five events completed, neighbors have been showing up eager to learn how green infrastructure can transform the way we manage stormwater and protect our environment.
Up on Albany Hill, our team joined forces with East Bay Parks for spring mowing to keep invasive species at bay and make room for native plants to flourish. And at Wildcat Creek, we laid the groundwork for future restoration by conducting important biological surveys that will help shape upcoming habitat and flood protection projects.
We also grew over 300 native plants this quarter to support future restoration work and teamed up with our Greenway crew to keep the bioswales at Unity Park and 6th Street thriving, putting nature-based solutions to work right here in our neighborhoods.
These efforts are all part of Urban Tilth’s larger mission: to care for the land, water, and each other. As we move into the second half of the year, we’re feeling energized and grateful for the amazing volunteers, staff, and partners who keep this work going strong.
All these efforts show Urban Tilth’s commitment to caring for land, water, and community. With so much progress and support, we’re excited for what’s ahead!
