“Topping Out” Ceremony, History Walk, Outdoor Classrooms, Farm Annex!!

They say March is “in like a lion, out like a lamb”…  Although “In like a lion” applies to the start of March, “out like a lamb” certainly does not apply at our construction site as we continue work at a furious pace!   Here’s what’s been happening since our last update:

Construction of the Farm Annex has begun and is nearly complete.  This is where our farm offices and CSA wash & pack facility will be for the remainder of construction on the farm site.

Temporary construction trailer set up for Urban Tilth Operations and Security staff

Building permit secured for a second walk-in cooler, which will allow us to provide expanded veggie box/food security support to area residents

Traditional heavy timber trusses and framing erected by EarthBound Building for the Watershed Workshop, Shade House, and Compost Toilet Building.  This work culminated with a “Topping Out” celebration complete with a traditional heavy timber construction “Whetting Bush” ceremony, where a tree branch and flag are raised on the highest timber which is the last one placed.

Framing and sheathing of Tool Shed / Farm Break Room building continuing

Construction workshop conducted by EarthBound Building at Cooperation Richmond

History Walk, Orchard and Row Crop Outdoor Classrooms construction begun

A swarm of bees recovered by our beekeeper was re-homed in the farm orchard

Moving the Urban Tilth office

Traditional heavy timber trusses and EarthBound Building heavy timber specialists

Placing the last heavy timber frame
