Summer Apprentices, Soil Health, and Shared Meals at the Farm

The North Richmond Farm team hopes the recent sunshine has brought joy to the community.

A highlight of the season has been welcoming the summer youth apprentices to the farm. During their time, they learned how to harvest, save tomato seeds, and even hatch chicks. As their program came to a close, the team celebrated their efforts by sending them home with handpicked bouquets.

The farm also launched its first vermicompost bin, a step toward enriching soil health and sustainability in future growing seasons.

In addition, the team gathered with community members to share a cultural food event and conversation centered on food apartheid and food access. They also visited the Edible Schoolyard Project to explore how youth are taught the interconnections between food, farming, climate-friendly practices, and cooking.

The team looks forward to continuing this work with the community. Neighbors are warmly invited to join upcoming volunteer days to help cultivate both food and connection.
