The Indigo Project: Honoring History, Heritage, and Healing at the Farm

The Indigo Project with Bushmama Africa at the farm was wonderful. We truly enjoy welcoming the community to the farm!

The Indigo Project was a spiritual assignment given to Bushmama to make the connection between denim, cotton, and indigo and the African Indigenous and the African American Community. These communities played a crucial role in the development of these industries. We also learned that we used this blue to honor the royal lineages in Nigeria and for spiritual protection. Lastly, we learned that denim was used during the civil rights movement to connect and unite people in the fight for freedom and equality.

It was a great history lesson, a cool interactive tie-dye activity, and excellent food.

After the tariff situation is resolved, we plan to host another event using the original materials, including the indigo plant.
