A Spooktacular Success for the Richmond Community

This year’s Halloween Land marked a special occasion that not only celebrated the spirit of Halloween but also highlighted the bond between creativity and community. Bringing together over 226 participants, including 194 local residents from Richmond and San Pablo, for a day filled with fun, learning, and community spirit. Hosted along the Richmond Greenway, a vital community hub that thrives thanks to the tireless efforts of local volunteers, donors, and residents, the event highlighted the importance of maintaining welcoming spaces for all. Over the course of four hours, we gave away 270 pumpkins, distributed 200 herb plants for participants to take home, and administered 70 vaccines to help keep everyone healthy. In addition, 200 candy bags and 150 candy apples were enjoyed by kids and adults alike, while 35 dental screenings were offered to ensure healthy smiles for all. It was a day of connection, creativity, and care for our community.

This year, the haunted house was brought to life by Mario Meija, an extraordinary Salvadoran artist and Richmond resident. Mario’s passion for the project and the community was evident throughout the haunted house that he spent over a year carefully crafting. Mario’s commitment to the project went beyond just creating a spooky attraction. It was a celebration of love, community, and artistry. With the support of his family, he transformed a simple idea into a magical space where laughter, shrieks of excitement, and pure joy filled the air and made it clear that Halloween Land was more than just an event. From the volunteers who helped maintain the Greenway Trail to the donors who supported the event, to the families who showed up to celebrate, the event was a reminder of the beauty of coming together to create something memorable.

One of the spookiest highlights of the event was the opportunity for attendees to get an up-close experience of bats and learn about the fascinating creates in a safe and educational environment. The bat exhibit was a great time for both children and adults to learn about Halloween’s most iconic creatures.
