Since May 2023, Urban Tilth has led the Verde Revitalization Project, funded by the CAL Fire Grant. This project aims to rejuvenate the Verde School Partnership Garden (VPG), a vital green space at North Richmond’s only school. Serving a community where 98% are at risk of asthma and 75% live below twice the federal poverty level, the garden provides a haven for environmental education, cultural exchange, and community connection.

The completed schematic design, developed with Bay Tree Design, includes a reimagined garden with thematic planting zones like the Mediterranean Garden, California Native Plant Garden, Food Forest, and Pollinator Meadow. The redesigned schoolyard will feature a tree buffer, two social nooks, and other activity areas.

With 50% of the project complete and an initial consultation with the Department of State Architect set for October, the next phase is ready to move forward. However, additional funding is needed to bring the full vision to life.

We invite you to join us in transforming this space by donating to the Verde Revitalization Project. Your support will help create a lasting green space for the community, fostering education, environmental stewardship, and a sense of belonging. Every contribution brings us one step closer to realizing this dream.
