Thank you Hass Sustainability Task Force (UC Berkeley) for coming to volunteer with us at verde, we had a great time planting cilantro and doing some infrastructure maintenance. Verde partnership garden this week planted carrots! We are also learning about food traditions. We are sprouting a project where youth interview caretakers, older people in their lives about foods that are special to them, often eaten during a particular time of year. As an example we prepared colada morada, hot purple corn beverage enjoyed in día de los difuntos in Ecuador. It is brewed with spices and fruit, and eaten in community and often shared as an offering to those that have passed. We hope to cook more in the garden as the days get colder and shorter, and to learn about food and culture from the youth.
