Orchard For All! Recap

Orchard For All! program update: Over the last 5 weeks our apprentices have had the chance gain the necessary skills for orchard and tree care, while learning they have been able to put them to work in different ways around our community while meeting and creating new connections, that will help in applying it in their day to day lives. Here we eagerly share some moments from the first 3 weeks!

We started our first week breaking the ice, getting to know one another, learning more about Urban Tilth and Richmond’s rich history and why learning and doing the work we do is so important in communities like ours. Ended our week with some more and laughs.

Week 2 began with some hands on training on tree care basics while getting comfortable with tools and their names. Ended our week with a nature hike where we practiced plant identification and got to see some of the work being done by the Watershed Restoration crew.

Going into Week 3 we dove deep into our proper gleaning lessons where we had the chance to harvest almost 400lbs and had the pleasure of teaching our lessons with a few of our community members that have been a part of our gleaning program for many years now.

As we move forward toward the end of our program we are excited to continue applying and sharing all we are learning with you, we are excited for all the new connections these branches, will lead us to! We hope to see you and your trees soon!
