This week was very exciting for us at the North Richmond Farm. With fun mason jar soil experiments, the Summer Apprentices learned about soil, its mineral components, and its structure. They had lessons on soil microorganisms and plant nutrients and through experiential learning activities, they learned how to make hot compost and vermicompost. Finally, the apprentices planted cover crop seeds and fed some crops with compost tea and other organic fertilizers! We also love having the extra hands and help. Here are some pictures of them helping us to turn a bed and transplant scarlet kale into it. Stay posted for next week’s activities!
