Over 25 community members gathered at Urban Tilth for an inspiring day of planting, learning, and connecting with local history. Together, participants planted 160 new additions to the history walk at the farm, including three types of lavender, three vibrant shades of yarrow (red, yellow, and white), and fragrant rosemary.
The white yarrow, nurtured by our Watershed Restoration crew in the Urban Tilth nursery, and the English lavender, cultivated by the Farm Collective, highlighted the deep roots of collaboration and sustainability in our work.
The History Walk is a pathway that guides visitors through the Farm and illustrates the powerful history of Richmond and the Ohlone people. This walkway will honor the rich and diverse history of North Richmond, incorporating mixed-media storytelling created with input from the Richmond Museum, community elders, indigenous residents, local artists, and a community advisory committee.
With themes ranging from social justice and ethnic migration to agriculture and the contributions of women, the History Walk will serve as a testament to the resilience and strength of the North Richmond community.
