Outdoor Equity: Community Design Sessions

Help Design FREE Outdoor Activities for Richmond Residents

Join us in guiding the design of future outdoor activities for the youth and beyond! We are asking the community of Richmond for their input and feedback on which outdoor activities best reflect our communities needs and interests.

During the fall of 2021, Urban Tilth, Rich City Rides and Moving Forward will be coming together to form the For the People, By the People Collaborative to create a proposal for the State of California’s Outdoor Equity Grant that could bring an exciting collection of FREE Outdoor Youth and Adult Activities to Richmond residents, especially those living in close proximity to Unity Park and the Richmond Greenway.

The project will include fun outdoor activities where Richmond families and youth can try something new, learn something new or just get out into nature and enjoy the outdoors.

The project will be composed of a series of local outdoor activities as well as bigger adventures to public lands, Regional, State and National Parks around California.

Bike rides, hikes, gardening, creek walks, boat trips, camping, photography, kayaking, rock climbing… the sky’s the limit! Tell us where you’d like to go and what you’d like to do outdoors!

Join a Community Design Session!

This September, we will be hosting a number of Community Design Sessions so that Richmond families, youth and seniors can help design this innovative project!

Our six school and community gardens are active year-round to help inspire and nourish neighbors of all ages, and our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program supplies fresh, locally-grown produce to over 440 West County families every week.

Rich City Rides

Founded in August of 2012, Rich City Rides (RCR) is a not-for-profit bicycle advocacy organization that helps make Richmond a healthier city where our youth and families. Rich City Rides understands that sedentary lifestyles lead to debilitating, devastating and preventable chronic illnesses that plague our community with obesity, heart disease, diabetes and depression. We have worked tirelessly to combat these preventable slow death sentences by daring to redefine physical activity as cool, and by reconnecting disconnected neighborhoods instead of encouraging divisions. The cure for an anti-social sedentary lifestyle is to get out and ride! Have pride in yourself and the strengths of your community. Meet people, see new places, and learn how things work so you too can create the changes you need to thrive in this world.

Moving Forward

Moving Forward’s mission is to make a positive impact on our community through health, academics, and community service. Moving Forward focuses consist of three pillars: COMMUNITY SERVICE, HEALTH, and ACADEMICS. Community services include park clean-ups and workshops, health includes promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, and academics, which is the cornerstone of Moving Forward, includes the Moving Forward Scholarship Program and life-skill workshops. The team at Moving Forward understands the importance of higher education and we want to set future generations up for success. We noticed that our city had limited resources to help youth achieve their goals, and wanted to help provide resources that would help them.
