This was our cohort’s first full week of the Summer Youth Apprenticeship Program, which had a focus on Environmental Justice and Injustices, past and present. We started the week by visiting the Richmond Museum of History and Culture with our friends over at the Greenway (SYAP), followed by a hike on Tuesday to a view of Chevron where we had a lesson and conversation about how the historical trajectories in Richmond has lead to the current state of environmental issues in our communities. This week, we’ve also collaborated with our friends in the Rudy Lozito fellowship to transplant, direct seed, and weed at our main farm site in North Richmond. We also created a communal herb infusion jar that we’ll be using to make salves in the following weeks! It has been a week full of mindfulness, reflection, and community building, and we can’t wait to keep learning and growing together!
