2 New Wash and Pack Facilities successfully installed!

Two new, large WASH & PACK facilities were constructed. This is where CSA boxes are washed and sanitized, and fresh produce from our farm and partner farms is washed and packed into boxes for distribution to CSA members. Local contractors who built these facilities for us were: Overaa & Company (structure), and Madriz Landscaping (building pad and interior wash facilities). Gravel for the structure pad and K-rails for structure supports were supplied by Ghilotti Brothers’ EcoTerra facility just across the street from the farm.  The box and veggie wash stations are built for efficient and sanitary operations, including water supply and drain systems, and both facilities have handwashing stations at the staff entry.  Wastewater from the produce and box-washing operations will go into a “gray water” system, irrigating an attractive planter area along the Fred Jackson Way frontage.
The WASH & PACK interior elements and water systems nearly completed. Handwash sinks, box, and veggie wash stations installed, with water lines and spigots. Graywater collection system installed. The one item remaining to be completed is the bioswale for the gray water, where wastewater from the washing operations will irrigate plants and drain through soil filter media into the ground.
Obtained estimates for power to wash & pack areas, for the sump pump, lighting, and freezer. Overaa will be installing the rain covers on the two facilities in October before the rains start.
