Basins of Relations Watershed Restoration Training Program

Project Description
This is a paid apprenticeship program that invests in low-income adults of color. Participants are from North Richmond and the surrounding communities. The program gives the apprentices a toolkit of skills and expertise that will help them understand, relate to, support, and protect the watersheds in which they live. The apprentices can then transition to be on the permanent crew. This program also connects apprentices with professional practitioners who introduce them to potential career opportunities within their respective fields.
The permanent crew operates year-round. It clears grass and invasive plants from creek channels to allow water to flow more freely. They tackle spreading ivy, giving native plants like blackberry, bee plant, and wild rose the space to thrive. At San Pablo Creek, they prune fallen trees and brush to open new planting sites. The crew services various creeks throughout the Bay Area, including Wildcat, Albany Hill, and San Pablo.
